Portage Lake in Onekama, Michigan

Portage Lake in Onekama, Michigan is located just north of Manistee and South of Arcadia, Frankfort and Traverse City.   The Village of Onekama is located on the East side of Portage Lake along M-22.

Portage Lake is about 2100 acres and has a reported depth of 60 feet.  It is an all-sports lake which leads directly into Lake Michigan.  Portage Lake is a popular lake for sports enthusiasts, as it offers spectacular sailing and fishing.

Fisherman should find Black Crappie, Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Pumpkinseed, Rock Bass, Small Mouth Bass, Walleye and Yellow Perch when fishing on Portage Lake.

The Michigan DNR maintains 2 public access sites on Portage Lake, both with hard surface boat launch sites with parking.
